Philanthropy Spotlight:
United Women in Business

As 2015 is in full swing, many of us included career and entrepreneurial goals to our list of new years resolutions. We all know that achieving these goals are not always the easiest thing to do, especially alone. Lucky for us, United Women in Business, also know as UWIB, is an organization that will help us strive to achieve them together!

UWIB is devoted to the professional development and education of women across all industries. I have personally been to a number of UWIB events and even helped partner a few of them. I can tell you that this organization is truly great and a really special thing to take part in. Their events are very intimate and well planned. They also have a great group of members who really care about helping one another personally and professionally.  With their help,  you can achieve your personal goals while also supporting other women who are doing the same.

Another goal and core value of UWIB is to do philanthropy throughout the community. This is why we are proud to launch our first philanthropic project with UWIB! They do countless projects with community organizations and we are excited to be included in helping them to give back even more by launching a fundraising partnership this month through the end of March!

Make sure to show your support by purchasing a pair of Lillybee Flats and using the code UWIB. We will donate 30% of all sales to their great works.  As you continue to work on your goals and use the resource UWIB provides, what better way than to support them in Royal Blue/White flats to show off your UWIB pride, or represent your favorite school or your sorority?

In the spirit of empowering and supporting women in business, we wanted to start off this partnership with a bang by featuring a few of the members of UWIB’s Chicago Chapter below. As you can see from their bios, these are successful and dedicated women who are passionate about helping other women obtain success as well.

Diana Gore

Vice President of Programming, Chicago Chapter

Diana plans professional development events, recruits speakers, and obtains key partnerships with businesses and non-profits as Vice President of Programming for the Chicago Chapter of UWIB. This is her second year in the role and she’s really excited to kick things off the right way for 2015!

Diana works as a Project Manager at Backstop Solutions Group. This is a company that provides CRM, investor relations, and portfolio management cloud based software for the alternative investment industry.

She graduated from The George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs with a B.A. in Political Communication. She also minored in Spanish Language and Literature and had the opportunity to spend a semester studying in Madrid.

Diana currently lives in the River North neighborhood of Chicago and loves exploring the amazing cultural scene and incredible food the city has to offer.

Lauren Shapiro

Vice President of Membership, Chicago Chapter

Lauren is the 2015 Vice President of Membership for the UWIB Chicago Chapter. She’s looking forward to helping the newest UWIB chapter grow and meeting amazing Chicago women during the process!

Lauren graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in News-Editorial Journalism and a concentration in Creative Writing. She now works at GoHealth as the Content Editor. Lauren’s writing has also been featured in Cheeky Chicago, Refinery 29 and The Huffington Post.

Professionally, Lauren’s office encourages creativity both in the execution of her writing and in her wardrobe! Winters in Chicago can be especially brutal, so Lauren loves creating outfits by mixing denim, leather accents, chunky knits and booties.

Marissa Ellenby

Vice President of Membership, Chicago Chapter

Marissa is the 2015 Vice President of Community Relations for the UWIB Chicago Chapter. In this role she’ll help develop dynamic programming and secure sponsorships and donations for events. Marissa will also serve as the university relations liaison for the Chicagoland region.

Marissa is an account supervisor at a Public Communications, Inc, a full service marketing/PR firm. While she specializes in the healthcare and nonprofit worlds, her true obsession and passion is all things style. Between pitching research published in the New England Journal of Medicine (her clients’ version of Vogue), she is constantly reading up on the latest trends and sharing new obsessions with family, friends and coworkers.

On the weekends, you can find Marissa brunching, shopping and growing her social media following. She enjoys challenges, a good book and critiquing any/all usage of capri pants (in that order).

Jordan Balkin

Vice President of Marketing & Communications, Chicago Chapter

Jordan currently works for Sprout Social, a social media management platform, and serves as UWIB Chicago’s Vice President of Digital Media.  She graduated from The George Washington University in 2010 with a degree in International Business & Marketing.  In her second year as a board member she’s excited to continue to grow the Chicago chapter’s presence.

When she’s offline Jordan enjoys running along Lake Michigan, checking out new restaurants, and cooking.  Now that winter’s here, you can find her looking for some new hats and scarves she’ll be spending the next several months bundled up in.

Caitlyn McEvilly

President, Chicago Chapter

Caitlyn is the UWIB Chicago Chapter President for 2014. She has been involved in UWIB for over a year. She is ecstatic to be able to help bring professional development opportunities to women in Chicago!

Caitlyn graduated from the University of Iowa in 2007 (Go Hawks!) with a degree in Finance and currently works for PwC as a banking consultant. She travels to client sites during the week, so she is constantly looking for great pieces of clothing that pack well and can transition from business casual in the day to team dinners in the evening. Caitlyn’s style is classic and sophisticated by day, but she loves to add an edgy piece or two at night.

In her free time, Caitlyn enjoys playing tennis, shopping, and checking out new wine bars in the city. In the winter, you find Caitlyn wearing her favorite staple items: blazers, cute booties, and fabulous sweaters.

Talla Mountjoy

Vice President of Philanthropy, Chicago Chapter

Talla is a Senior Consultant within the Brand & Eminence group of Deloitte LP. She focuses on brand management, positioning, and strategy for the Deloitte U.S. firm.

Talla graduated from American University in 2010 with a BA in Economics, minoring in Business Administration and International Relations.

Talla was involved with UWIB in DC and was excited when UWIB expanded to Chicago. She is strongly passionate about philanthropy affairs and is looking forward to the upcoming year as VP of Philanthropy in Chicago!

Shine on, ladies!
